You may think you will never have to change a flat tire yourself, but it can happen, and it’s important to learn how to do it- just in case.
*Always make sure there is a spare tire, jack and tire iron in the trunk of your car, as well as a lantern or a large flashlight.
How to change a flat tire
Make sure the vehicle is in gear and that the emergency brake is on.
Remove the spare tire, jack and tire iron from your trunk.
Use the iron to remove the flat tire. Partially unscrew each wheel lug.
Place the jack under the vehicle. Raise the car with the jack until the flat is completely off the ground and completely remove the wheel lugs.
Position the spare over the studs. Hold up the tire and align the holes in the wheel with the wheel studs on the hub. Screw each of the wheel lugs back on.
Once the spare tire is on, lower the jack. Pull the jack away from the vehicle and tighten down the lugs completely. Return the flat tire, the jack and tire iron to the trunk of your vehicle.
Remember, those who fail to prepare are preparing to fail. Be prepared.
